Early Life and Accession to the Throne
Victoria was born on May 24, 1819, at Kensington Palace in London. She was the only child of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn, and Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. Her father died when she was just eight months old, and she was raised by her mother and her governess, Baroness Lehzen. Victoria was a shy and reserved child, but she was also intelligent and well-educated. She became queen at the age of 18, following the death of her uncle, William IV.
Reign and Marriage
Victoria's reign was one of the longest and most prosperous in British history. She ruled for over 63 years, and during her reign, Britain became a global superpower. Victoria married Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1840. The couple had nine children, and their marriage was a happy one. Albert died in 1861, and Victoria mourned him deeply for the rest of her life. She became known as the "Widow of Windsor" and rarely appeared in public.
Later Years and Death
In her later years, Victoria became increasingly isolated and withdrawn. She died on January 22, 1901, at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight. She was buried at Frogmore Mausoleum, next to her beloved Albert. Victoria's death marked the end of an era, and she is still remembered as one of the most influential monarchs in British history.
