About the Book
The Eddie Stobart Story is a fascinating and inspiring account of the rise of one of the UK's most iconic haulage companies. Written by award-winning author Hunter Davies, the book tells the story of Eddie Stobart, a visionary entrepreneur who turned his passion for trucking into a global empire.
Eddie Stobart was born in 1929 in the small village of Appleton-le-Moors in Yorkshire. He left school at the age of 14 and started working as a farm labourer. However, he soon realised that his true passion was for driving lorries. In 1952, he bought his first lorry and started his own haulage business.
Eddie Stobart's business grew rapidly and soon became one of the largest haulage companies in the UK. In 1970, he opened his first depot in Felixstowe, which became the company's headquarters. Over the years, Eddie Stobart expanded his business into Europe and the Middle East. He also diversified into other areas, such as warehousing and logistics.
Eddie Stobart was a charismatic and driven entrepreneur. He was also a generous man who supported many charities. He was awarded an OBE in 1998 for his services to the transport industry.
Eddie Stobart died in 2011 at the age of 81. However, his legacy lives on. The Eddie Stobart Group is now one of the largest privately-owned haulage companies in the UK. The company's distinctive green and yellow lorries are a familiar sight on roads throughout the country.
