The book opens with the story of Sunhee, who is adopted by a white American family in a small town in the Midwest. Sunhee struggles to fit in with her new family and community, and she often feels like an outsider. She is teased by her classmates for her Korean features, and she is often made to feel like she is not truly American.

As Sunhee grows older, she begins to question her identity. She wants to learn more about her Korean heritage, but she is afraid of what her adoptive parents will think. She eventually decides to travel to Korea to find her birth mother, but her journey is not without its challenges.

The second main character in the book is Inja, who is adopted by a Korean American family in Los Angeles. Inja has a different experience growing up than Sunhee. She is surrounded by other Korean Americans, and she does not feel the same sense of alienation that Sunhee does. However, Inja also struggles with her identity. She feels like she is not Korean enough for her Korean friends, and she is not American enough for her American friends.

As Inja grows older, she begins to explore her Korean heritage. She learns to speak Korean, and she becomes involved in the Korean American community. She also begins to question her sexuality, and she eventually comes out as a lesbian.

Made in Korea is a moving and insightful exploration of the Korean immigrant experience and the complexities of identity. It is a book that will resonate with anyone who has ever felt like an outsider or who has ever struggled to find their place in the world.
